Jacob's Ladder is a popular song by Huey Lewis and the News, from their 1987 album Fore!. It would spend one week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the group's third and final #1 hit.

Notwithstanding that the song's title invokes Biblical imagery (the title is a reference to Jacob's dream of a latter extending from Heaven to Earth, as referenced in Genesis 28:12) the content is about a man who has a disdain for Christianity:

  • The first verse mentions how, while visiting the "south side of Birmingham", he tries to avoid an obese "street preacher" who has already tried to convert a female fan dancer.
  • The second verse mentions him seeing a televangelist ask for funds (claiming to need them to avoid being kicked off the air) and replying, "I don't want to be like you".
