Islamic apologists are those who make excuses for Islam, and/or unnecessarily attack, suppress, and/or censor its critics.

As German ultranationalists made excuses for Nazism, many people today make excuses for Islam and Islamism, even smearing critics and skeptics as "bigots" and using the manufactured term "Islamophobia" against them.

Though this mainly includes leftists, with the notable exception of Bill Maher, due to Islam's virulent anti-Westernism, anti-Americanism, and anti-Semitism, many conservatives have also bent at the knee for Islam. Breitbart infamously fired an editor in June 2017 for social media posts critical of Islam,[1][2][3] and Fox News even more infamously suspended commentator Judge Jeanine Pirro for two weeks for making politically incorrect comments related to anti-Semitic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's hijab.[4][5][6]

Hollywood liberal Ben Affleck engaged in a debate with Bill Maher over Islam, during which he asserted that any criticism of Islam is "gross" and "racist",[7] even though Islam is not a "race".

Despite the common leftist assertion of a rise of anti-Islamic sentiment after the September 11 attacks, President George W. Bush claimed that, "Islam is peace."[8]
