Saint Hippolytus (3rd century) according to the Roman Martyrology on August 22, was bishop of Porto, Italy, who was put to death for his faith either there or at Ostia during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus.[1] He is often confused with Hippolytus of Rome on August 3 (died A.D. 235) and with Hippolytus of St. Lawrence on August 13.
