The Grand Union Flag

The Grand Union Flag is considered the first flag of the United States, and was in use from late 1775 until mid 1777.

The flag had a upper left canton resembling the British Union flag, and thirteen alternating red and white stripes like the current Flag of the United States of America. It is believed that George Washington's Army raised the Grand Union Flag on New Year's Day in 1776 at Prospect Hill.[1]
