IMDb profile
Gopher Spinach is a Popeye the Sailor theatrical animated short produced by Famous Studios (the original animation unit of Paramount Pictures) and released on December 10, 1954.

Plot

Popeye takes on a thieving gopher who keeps trying to steal spinach plants from his garden. The sailor tries various traps to catch the gopher, but the wily rodent outfoxes him at every turn and interferes with every attempt Popeye makes to stop him from stealing the spinach. Popeye soon has enough of the gopher's antics and he gets a shotgun from inside his house to chase after the gopher, but he cannot bring himself to shoot the gopher and he throws away the shotgun, which accidentally strikes and angers a bull nearby. After skipping away, the gopher sees Popeye being chased by the furious bull, and remembering how his life had been spared earlier, he rushes to the spinach patch and eats some spinach to gain super strength and stop the bull from harming Popeye. Afterward, the gopher assists a grateful Popeye in planting new spinach plants by digging holes for the plants.
