Glen Dale Womack (born November 14, 1960) is a business owner from Harrisonburg in Catahoula Parish in eastern Louisiana, who is the incoming Republican state senator for District 32, which embraces ten parishes between Monroe in Ouachita Parish and St. Francisville in West Feliciana Parish. On January 13, 2020, he succeeded the term-limited Senator Neil Riser, who instead was elected to the state House of Representatives.[1]
Womack finished the Senate race with 18,588 votes (50.1 percent) and won the seat outright over another Republican, Stephen Elmo "Steve" May (born 1959), a conservative from Columbia in Caldwell Parish, and two Democrats, Judy Duhon and Danny Cole, who split the remaining 49 percent of the vote. May finished second with 11,400 votes (31 percent). Duhon and Cole held the remaining 19 percent of the vote. Turnout of registered voters was 55.5 percent, somewhat higher than in other parts of the state.[2]
In his platform, Womack called for improved job training and workforce development, lowering the student-teacher ratio in classrooms, and increased pay for certified teachers.[1]
