Fischer v. R. Byrne

Fischer vs R. Byrne (1963) is considered one of the greatest chess games ever played, as won by Bobby Fischer with the black pieces against a careful, skilled opponent.

Commentators, themselves experts at chess, thought that when the players shook hands upon a resignation that it was Fischer, behind on pieces, who had resigned. Instead, it was R. Byrne who resigned, and properly so.
