IMHO. These are separate things. (British Balfour declaration 2 years after they got the Mandate and Ottoman Empire fall aren't as closely connected). But what is clear: He is dreaming big on reviving empire and overall he wants to be the ISLAM leader. The new ottomanism don't have to have past historic pacts involved, thus will be "adjuted" to current geopolitics. That's all true.

IMO opinion, the historic parallels are obvious with the modern day. It was the Western Powers & British Empire responsible for the Ottoman fall. "Neo-Ottomanism" requires Arabs coming under the Turkic yoke again, only the Arabs won't look to the Western Powers for aid & protection like they did under Lawrence of Arabia. To rebel against the Ottomans, Lawrence promised the Arabs a single unified state. What they got instead was the Balfour Declaration which allowed Jewish migration, and the Arab nation chopped up into little pieces, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and others.

My understanding is "neo-Ottomanism" actually wants to expand Turkish influence eastward into Central Asia (maybe as far as Japan) and not southward among the Arabs.
