Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus was a Roman general who earned the name Cunctator, which means delayer in Latin.
Fabius' tactics amounted to harassing the enemy, without risking a pitched battle, to wear them out. The strategy was successful against Hannibal.[1]
