RationalWiki, despite calling itself such, is a left-wing site run by admins evidently with a very poor understanding of U.S. history.
They claim on their page for the John Birch Society:
It's basically the KKK, but with a thin, stringy veneer of political theory (read: more fears of fluorinated water controlling their brains). In fact, both groups claimed the civil rights movement was a communist plot! They basically started libertarianism,[3] which took the cult-ish route of hiding the core tenets from newcomers.
The Klan committed racial terrorism and countless lynchings. The JBS said that Eisenhower was in cahoots with commies. There is no factual comparison between the two, and it's clear that RationalWiki condones the history of KKK violence by comparing them to a group which merely promoted some purportedly far-fetched conspiracy theories. How does this significantly differ from racist anti-Semites like Nick Fuentes who outright compared the Holocaust to baking cookies?
Looking at the page history, it appears that the RW mob intends on keeping their falsehoods. I suspect that two of them who did the rollbacks are the same person, though I won't go into detail about that here.
There was a report by the California State Senate in 1963 which refuted allegations that the JBS as a whole was racist or anti-Semitic. Its founder, Robert Welch, was reportedly very tolerant and open towards minorities, including Jews and blacks.
Thank you to a friend of mine from RW who brought this to my attention.
