Eclipse is an open-source, free, cross-platform Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and application development framework primarily designed for Java software development, but can be used to develop software in other languages via plug-ins. Eclipse was developed by IBM in the early 2000s, and its is further developed since 2003 by the not-for-profit Eclipse foundation.
