East of England

East of England, or Eastern England, is one of the nine statistical regions of England established in 1994. It covers an area of eastern and southern England between Greater London and the Thames estuary in the south, and the Wash in the north. The region broadly covers the counties Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire Huntingdonshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, with the addition of most (by area) of Essex, an area of east Northamptonshire containing Peterborough (pop. 215,000), the region's largest settlement, as well as Linslade in Buckinghamshire and the Potters Bar area of Middlesex.

As of 2022, the population of the East of England was just under 6.4 million.

East Anglia is a cultural region of England, which broadly corresponds to the north-east of the statistical region East of England; being co-extensive with the traditional counties Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
