Douglas Gordon Ross (born 1983) is a Scottish politician. He serves as leader of the Scottish Conservatives, the Scotland-based wing of the UK's main neoconservative party the Conservatives, the largest opposition party to the SNP regime in the Scottish Parliament. He is also Member of Parliament for Moray and Member of Scottish Parliament for Highlands and Islands.
History
Douglas Ross stood as the Conservative candidate for the Moray Scottish Parliament constituency at the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, held on May 5 that year, but finished second to the SNP's Richard Lochhead.
On 5 May 2016, at that year's Scottish Parliament election, Ross increased his vote by 18.0% but again finished behind Richard Lochhead. However, he was elected to the Scottish Parliament after being placed first on the Highlands and Islands regional list.
On 25 October 2022, Douglas Ross voted against the Sturgeon regime's trans-fascist and anti-woman Gender Recognition Bill. The Bill, which was opposed by over 80% of the Scottish public, passed with 88 for and 33 against.[1]
Political positions
Douglas Ross describes himself as a Scottish Unionist, and is opposed to Scotland leaving the United Kingdom as well as a second referendum on that subject.
Ross supported the campaign for the UK to remain in the European Union and criticized UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government for allegedly ignoring the views of Remainers. He claimed that the stance created the perception that "perception that Scotland and England no longer share common values".[2]
