Daryl Andrew Deshotel (born August 23, 1974),[1] is a businessman from Hessmer in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana and the Republican state representative for District 28. The seat opened when the incumbent Democrat, Robert Allen Johnson (born 1975) of Marksville, ran for an opening for state senator, also District 28, but lost that race by a wide margin to Republican Heather Cloud.
Deshotel, who claims that he is "not a politician,"[2] was elected in the nonpartisan blanket primary held on October 12, 2019. With 7,835 votes (61.3 percent), he defeated two Democrats, Marcus Johnson and Donald Milligan, and a No Party candidate, Ramondo Ramos, who finished with 17, 16, and 5 percent, respectively[3].
Deshotel worked as a youth in the sweet potato fields on his uncle's farm. He graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and entered the field of computers while still in college. He is the owner of Detel Computer Solutions in Mansura. He and his wife, Olivia, have three children, Noah, Kate, and Annalise. They are Roman Catholic. He is a member of the Catholic men's organization, the Knights of Columbus in Hessmer. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Marksville, Simmesport, Mansura, and Bunkie. He is a youth baseball coach.[2]
