Dagenham

Dagenham is a town in southwestern Essex, England that forms a part of East London. Administratively, it is within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Dagenham has a population of 106,247 according to the 2011 census.

Ford Dagenham, a major automotive factory operated by the Ford of Britain subsidiary of Ford Motors, has operated in the area since the 1930s, was once the largest factory of its kind in Europe and was the site of a major sewing machinists strike in 1968 which triggered the passing of the Equal Pay Act 1970.

Paul Embery, the trade unionist and author, was born in Dagenham.
