While he was raised in South Philadelphia, Ernest Evans was born in Spring Gulley, South Carolina on October 3, 1941.

Adopting the name Chubby Checker, he would become a star after recording the multi million seller “The Twist” and popularizing a dance craze that would sweep the world.

He is the only artist in Hit Parade history during the rock era to have the same recording reach #1 twice, in 1960 and again in 1962.

Capitalizing on other dances Chubby hit with “The Hucklebuck” in 1960, “Pony Time” and “The Fly” in 1961 and “Limbo Rock” in 1962.

Among his 35 visits to the Hit Parade, were “Let’s Twist Again”, “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Slow Twisting”, “Popeye The Hitchiker”, “Dancin’ Party”, “Birdland” and “Loddy Lo”.

In 2007 Chubby Checker was inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.
