Brain stem

The Brain stem is the most dorsal subdivision of the brain in the central nervous system. It is the primary conduit for incoming sensory information and outgoing motor control signals. It is composed of the medulla, pons and midbrain. In mammals, as opposed to other organisms, it is bifurcated by the medulla, although the reason is not fully understood.
