Boden's Mate is a checkmate in chess using only two crisscrossing bishops, with the assistance of opposing pieces which block an escape by the opposing king.[1]

It can be set up by a surprise sacrifice of material, and can work effectively against a castled opposing king. This checkmate owes its name to a famous match between Samuel Boden and R. Schulder in 1853.
