Black Robe is a novel, written by Brian Moore, first published in 1985. The novel is set in New France during the 17th Century and follows a Jesuit priest, Father Laforgue, as he travels with a group of Algonkian to a distant mission among the Huron Indians. Along the way he struggles with his faith and his relationships with the natives.
The book is partially based on letters written by Jesuits traveling through the area in the time period. In 1991, the book was adapted into a movie by the same name.
