The Bible is the best-selling book of all time.[1]

Between 5 to 7 billion Bibles have been published.

The Bible is available in over 700 languages and has sold billions of copies.[2]

According the Guinness Book of Word Record, "The best-selling book of all time is the Christian Bible. It is impossible to know exactly how many copies have been printed in the roughly 1,500 years since its contents were standardized, but research conducted by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 2021 suggests that the total number probably lies between 5 and 7 billion copies.[3]

In the United States, Bible sales increased by a remarkable 22% in 2024, which the Wall Street Journal describes as “a golden age of Bible publishing.” From the Christian Broadcasting Network based on WSJ reporting:

“ The WSJ crunched the numbers and found Bible sales increased from 9.7 million in 2019 to 14.2 million in 2023. In the first 10 months of 2024, 13.7 million copies were sold, with still two months left to count.[4] ”

This far outpasses the anemic growth of merely 1% in annual book sales overall.

Did Bible sales impact the 2024 election?

Polling shows that evangelical (Bible-reading) Hispanics, Asians, and Whites voted for Trump in 2024 in far higher percentage than non-Bible reading members of their ethnic groups. Perhaps 50 million Bibles were sold between 2020, when Biden was declared the winner by roughly 100,000 votes, and 2024, when Trump won by roughly 500,000 votes.

About 3.6 million American births occur annually, but Bible sales as of 2024 are many times larger at around 14 million. This indicates that the Bible is reaching and influencing many millions of voters annually -- indeed, potentially tend of millions of voters every four-year presidential election cycle -- which is ten or more times larger than the winning margin of difference in a presidential race.
