Battle of Himera

The Battle of Himera was fought during a war between Carthage and Syracuse in 480 B.C. Gelo, heading up the alliance forces for Syracuse, decisively defeated a large Carthaginian army under Hamilcar, who was killed. The Carthaginians were forced to pay an indemnity and end their ambitions in Sicily.
