Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is a 2016 superhero film and the sequel to 2013's Man of Steel. Being the second installment of Warner Bros.' planned DC Cinematic Universe (the DC Comics variant of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe), the film was intended to serve as a precursor to a two part Justice League film adaptation, which was due for release in 2018 and 2019, respectively. When this particular adaption was cancelled due to the poor critical reception of the film and relatively disappointing box office returns, Justice League was turned into a single movie which was released in the year 2017.
Three years later in the now globally impacted movie industry by the Chinese Communist Virus, Zack Snyder was given permission to expand upon the mandated 2 hour runtime and release a four-part miniseries on HBO Max. This was at the last moment turned into a four hour film, which some believe to have been excessive. The new content included consisted of the visionary directors original story, removing the re-shot scenes that were filmed by Avengers Assemble director Joss Whedon (who also directed Avengers: Age of Ultron).
