Anish Giri is one of the very best chess players in the world, and at age 28 won the prestigious Tata Steel Chess 2023 tournament in January.[1]
Background
Born in Russia to a Russian mother and a Nepali father, Giri ended up in the Netherlands because he father's engineering job took the family there when Giri was a teenager.
He explains the Indian appearance of his name in that his grandmother was from India.[2]
Career
In a game of rapid chess in 2022, Giri made quick work of Hans Niemann in defeating him in 27 moves.[3]
