Amish cite the following two verses for their safeguards against influence by secular culture: James 1:27 :
| “ | Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: ... to keep oneself unstained from the world. | ” |
and Romans 12:2 :
| “ | Do not be conformed to this world,[a] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. | ” |
The Amish ban on taking pictures of them is based on the second of the Ten Commandments (Protestant version).
