1. What was the "Revolution of 1800"? In 1800 when Federalist Party leader John Adams was president, Thomas Jefferson who was an associate of the Democratic-Republican Party ran against Adams in the upcoming presidential election of 1800. The Federalist Party who was in charge at the time, was defeated by the Democratic-Republican Party, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. The victory by Jefferson and Burr against Adams was a victory for limited government and a “strict constructionist” interpretation of the constitution. This election became well known as the “Revolution of 1800” because it was the first peaceful change in power due to an election in modern history.

Excellent explanation!

2. If you were the president, would you have approved the Louisiana Purchase? Explain. - In 1803 when Thomas Jefferson was president the United States bought 827,987 square miles of land from France for 15,000,000 dollars, which is known as the Louisiana Purchase. If I were Jefferson I would have approved the purchase. If the United States had not purchase the land there’s no telling what would have happened, France could have moved in next door. Also the land that was bought has been put to use, and was purchased at a pretty decent price. I believe Jefferson made the right choice by approving it, and I would have probably done the same.

Superb.

3. Identify a cause of the War of 1812: The war in 1812 first started when the British attacked the American Ships by boarding them and harassing the American sailors. The war continued for quite sometime until England wanted to fight no more. On Christmas Eve, England agreed to end the war with the Treaty of Ghent, and the United States ended up not having to give up any of its land.

Terrific, will use in model answers.

4. Describe what you like most about the Monroe Administration: The thing I like most about the Monroe Administration would be the “Monroe Doctrine”. It forbids Europe to have any interference with the western hemisphere, and stated that Europe should not add any new colonies in North or South America due to the political and economic systems which are extremely different from those in America. The doctrine made such a difference that is has been carried on to this day. Anytime a European country tries to do something in our hemisphere the doctrine is recited.

Superb.

5. Explain what is meant by "Jacksonian Democracy.": Andrew Jackson’s landslide victory in the presidential election of 1828 is known as the “Jacksonian Democracy”. The democracy refers to Jackson’s political philosophy, and how the lower and middle class voters loved Jackson, but the upper class did not feel the same way.

Good.

6. Explain what the Marshall Court is known for: The Marshall Court is known for the many decisions that were made, one of them being Marbury v. Madison in 1803. Marbury v. Madison established the new power of judicial review to declare an Act of Congress unconstitutional. The Marshall Court made many other important decisions which have made a great effect on America.

Superb analysis of Marbury v. Madison, but discuss how the Marshall Court increased the power of the federal courts. See model answers.

7. Identify the figures in the cartoon, provide an approximate date, and describe the likely viewpoint of the cartoonist: The cartoon refers to the War of 1812 between America and Great Britain and the Russian effort to mediate. The three figures in the cartoon each represent a country. It shows John Bull who represents England, The Russian bear, Bruin, who represents Russia, and Columbia who is the representation of America. The cartoon shows John Bull begging Bruin about the treaty, and Columbia confused on whether or not to trust the bull. Bruin is the mediator between the two negotiating for peace.

The cartoon was drawn by William Charles in New York City approximately around 1813, and it seems to me like he was siding with America.

Excellent analysis.
