Alaska Airlines Flight 261

Alaska Airlines Flight 261 was a commercial passenger flight on a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 that crashed January 31, 2000, about 2.7 Miles North of Anacapa Island, in the Pacific Ocean. The flight took off from Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport and was supposed to arrive at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport with a stopover at San Francisco International Airport. Both pilots, all three flight attendants, as well as all 83 passengers died on impact from the crash. The cause of the accident was jackscrew failure.[1]
