IMDb profile

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is a independent horor film directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield that was released in 2023.

Plot

Years ago, a young boy named Christopher Robin befriends five animals in the 100 Acre Wood being Owl, Rabbit, Eeyore, Piglet, and Winnie-the-Pooh. He often gave them food, but as he got older, his visits were less frequent, and left the 100 Acre Wood for good to go to college to become a doctor. When winter arrived, the five animals starved, and it was decided that in order to survive, one of them had to be eaten, and thus Eeyore is no more. This action turned the remaining four animals feral, and they swore an oath to abandon anything that makes them human.

Five years later, Christopher Robin has graduated college, and has returned to the 100 Acre Wood with his girlfriend later fiancé Mary. They explore for a bit, and when they go to Pooh's treehouse, they know something is wrong. After they leave, Piglet appears, and strangles Mary to death with a chain, while Christopher Robin begs for Piglet to stop. After Mary dies, Christopher Robin runs away, and runs into Pooh. He tells Pooh that Piglet killed Mary, but instead of helping him, Pooh and Piglet surround Christopher Robin and take him away to a cave to show him Eeyore's skeleton.

Maria is told by her therapist to spend the weekend in a cabin with her friends to get over the trauma of getting stalked by a creep. She does so, but one of her friends (Tina) fails to show up. We see Tina on the run, and she runs into a garage, where she runs into Pooh, who shoves her into a woodchipper, killing her. Pooh returns to his treehouse to see Christopher Robin pleading to be let go. Pooh remembers Christopher Robin telling him years ago that he would never leave him. In a rage, Pooh gets Eeyore's tail, and whips Christopher Robin with it until it scars him. Piglet returns with Mary's skeleton, and with a machine, it drains the blood from Mary, and it showers on Christopher Robin.

Pooh and Piglet see the cabin the girls are staying at, and they attack. Lara and Zoe die, and the latter's lesbian lover Alice is knocked out, and kidnapped, but is still alive. Maria and Jessica follow Pooh and Piglet into the 100 Acre Wood to rescue Alice, and they also save Christopher Robin and a new character named Charlene who plans to kill Piglet for killing her husband, and disfiguring her face. But Pooh holds her down, while Piglet mauls her to death. Pooh gives chase to Maria and Jessica, but Alice stays behind to fight Piglet, and she wins by slamming him with his sledgehammer. Piglet screams before the kill, causing Pooh and his prey to go back into the 100 Acre Wood to see Pooh impale Alice to death with a knife. After another chase, the remaining girls run into a group of men in a car ready to protect them. However, Pooh kills all of them, and grabs on to the car Maria and Jessica took from the dead men. Maria slams the breaks sending Pooh flying, but she gets knocked out by hitting her head on the steering wheel too hard. After she wakes up, she sees Pooh holding Jessica's decapitated head. Pooh drags Maria out of the car, and when it appears all hope is lost, but Christopher Robin arrives to slam Pooh presumably killing him. Christopher Robin goes to Maria to comfort her, but Pooh is still alive, and gives chase. Due to Maria having an injured leg from the earlier attack, Pooh easily catches up, and is ready to kill Maria. Christopher Robin pleads to have Maria sparred, offering to forever stay in the 100 Acre Wood. Pooh breaks his vow with the other animals and says "You left," and slits Maria's throat killing her. Christopher Robin runs as fast as he can, while Pooh stays where he is stabbing Maria's corpse.

Production

On January 1, 2022, the original 1926 Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne entered the public domain. Shortly after that happened, an indie English film studio called Jagged Edge Productions announced they would adapt Milne's book into a horror film set years later. The idea was criticized by many, saying that turning a character that has been a children's icon for nearly 100 years into a slasher villain is incredibly mean spirited. Production continued however, and was it slated for an October, 2022 release straight-to-video, but due to increased publicity, it got delayed for a one day release to theaters which made it the first Jagged Edge Productions movie ever to get the theatrical treatment.[1] When the release in the United States was weeks away, it was announced that the movie would get a longer theatrical run than anticipated, which was another win for the studio. After it got released, it got very poor reviews, with a current rating of 3% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the poor reviews, the movie was a finical success, getting $5,200,000 worldwide on a $100,000 budget.
