Increasingly the General Assembly became a forum for Arab attacks on [[Israel]]. [[Ahmed Shukairy]], the first chairman of the [[Palestinian Liberation Organization]] terror group, was a Syria delegate from 1949 to 1951 and later [[Saudi Arabia|Saudi]] ambassador to the UN from 1957 to 1962.
