/* Senator Rubio */ reply
Senator Rubio
Is Senator Rubio really a R.I.N.O. Republican? He has voted with President Trump 90.80% of the time.
:This anti-Trump, anti-Marco Rubio article in the Washington Post implies he is definitely not a RINO Republican. ::Then why has he contradicted the President on: the far-right and the far-left being EQUALLY culpable for the riots (what?); and mail-in voting? BernieandTrumpFan

:::Just those two comments do not make him a RINO. They are just statements, not actual positions or votes.---TheNewRight (talk) 08:25, 8 September 2020 (EDT)

:::I mostly agree with TheNewRight; while Rubio seems more like an establishmentarian (especially with being part of the SSCI), he's most likely conservative and pro-Trump. —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier's mother be all well! Tuesday, 15:44, 8 September 2020 (EDT)

::::Should he then be taken off the list?--TheNewRight (talk) 13:41, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

:::::I personally think that would be a good idea, though it'd be better to wait for BernieandTrumpFan's further input. —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier's mother be all well! Wednesday, 13:53, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

:::::::A question to you all: according to FiveThirtyEight, RINO Mitch McConnell votes with Trump more often than Rubio! Does that mean that McConnell is a true conservative, or is he disingenuous? Likewise, I believe Rubio's voting with Trump is disingenuous, and his many RINO-oriented public statements show who he really is. If you still persist, I will put Rubio in the "Some have argued" section with Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, but I do not think he should be taken out. --- BernieandTrumpFan (talk) 14:13, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

::::::::It'd be better (at least for now) to put Rubio along with the "some have argued" section. Also, FiveThirtyEight is helpful, but not necessarily perfect. After all, for the overall Trump era so far according to them, Rand Paul has voted with the president 70% of the time, compared to RINO Lisa Murkowski voting along 75% of the time. —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier's mother be all well! Wednesday, 14:30, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

:::::::::That's why % voted with Trump is really not a great measure of how conservative a politician is. I believe the reason in the case of Rand Paul is that he voted against the stimulus package. It's also because non-controversial bills being passed through House/Senate inflate the % voted with Trump. The 538 scale shows even some Democrats as voting with Trump much of the time, so it doesn't provide an accurate picture of what politicians think of Trump.
:::::::::The question also presents itself, "what truly is a RINO?" The term wasn't created with even the consideration of a Trump Presidency, so it's hard to apply the term "RINO" as many of the ex-RINOs have either abandoned the "in name only" part of the title and decided to support Trump, or have abandoned the GOP altogether. I would think of the modern day RINO to be someone like Romney, or even Paul Ryan, but Mitch McConnell and Marco Rubio? TrumpConservative (talk) 16:40, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

::::::::::McConnell is often considered by some conservatives as a RINO because of his leadership that has been viewed as weak and ineffective, especially during the 114th and 115th U.S. Congresses. Rubio is an establishment-leaning senator but mostly conservative. About Sen. Paul, much of his opposition to Trump comes from foreign policy differences, where he's rather dovish compared to the Trump Administration's policies mostly led by the more hawkish Mike Pompeo. —LiberaltearsMay Dataclarifier's mother be all well! Wednesday, 16:47, 9 September 2020 (EDT)

:::::::::::Sorry for taking a while to respond, but I see your point. I agree with your assessment of Senator Paul, though an anti-war position on its own certainly doesn't indicate a RINO. I also agree with your assessment of Marco Rubio, so I think some of these things will just take a while to more clearly develop, particularly following the elections this November. ==Donald Trump is not the definition of the Republican Party==
Nor is any one man. Obviously, he aligns with the party and conservatism most of the time, but there have been notable deviations. Take this into consideration when evaluating what a RINO actually is. --LawfulLibertarian (talk) 17:01, 9 September 2020 (EDT)
