I noticed some problems with this article. The "warming pause" idea has been debunked and I think the article should be rewritten accordingly. The satellite data is not in fact the most accurate available source of temperature data. Both of the programs used to calculate temperature trends from the satellite data have been revised multiple times over the years, and the revisions aren't peer-reviewed. The calculations involved are hugely complex and require a two teams of scientists to maintain them. The same data is fed to both teams, one called UAH and the other called RSS. The UAH and RSS teams never come up with exactly the same result. RSS version 4.0 came out in March 2016. You'd think they would be down to fine-tuning after all these years of repeated adjustments, but it was a pretty drastic revision. (No warming pause in the new version.)<br/>Here is the UAH data: "Latest global temperatures." Legendary warming skeptic Dr. Roy Spencer is UAH team leader. See Spencer's "My Global Warming Skepticism, for Dummies."<br/>The radiosonde data is clearly a better source. It comes from weather balloons and is averaged by a program called RATPAC. The raw data is online. Anyone can download it and average it for themselves. There is no priesthood adjusting and possibly politicizing the data, so there is with the weather station data and the satellite data. Here is a discussion of RATPAC: "NOAA Radiosonde Data Shows No Warming For 58 Years."<br/>Sadly, RATPAC goes back only to 1958. But the Earth was almost certainly warmer in various earlier eras: During the 1930s, during the Medieval Warm Period, and during the Roman Warm Period. See "A simple proof that the 1930s were hotter." What's up with 2016 being the "hottest year on record" if the 1930s were warmer? See "The Corrupt History Of NASA Temperature History." In the 1970s they told us it was cooling, now it's warming. It's whatever the politicians want to hear. With respect to recent data, Spencer and RATPAC limit the amount of adjustment possible. But the older stuff is being shamelessly manipulated to conform to the hockey stick model. PeterKa (talk) 06:35, 3 January 2017 (EST)

The use of the word "leftist"
Is it really appropriate to use the term "leftist" in an encyclopaedia article that deals with the subject of climate? Doesn't it indicate an obvious political bias by an editor – when he or she is claiming to be neutral? Presumably many scientists are of both main American political persuasions, or are even indifferent to politics. Certainly we are all subject to bias, even scientists, or at least that is what the postmodernist claim, but if science is just another form of politics where does that leave us. But perhaps if you vote the right way you are a good scientist. Maybe that's the way to go. Rleonardw (talk) 12:53, 30 January 2017 (EST)
