I would call his religion "unthinking politically correct leftism." In his memoir, he writes, "To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets." I assume he means "post-structural feminists," i.e. people who reject masculinity and femininity as "structures" imposed on us by "the patriarchy." You have to be pretty devoted to The Cause to spend your free time in college pretending to listen to people who spout that level of gibberish.
