Patricide is the act of one deliberately murdering one's own father. The etymology of the word is Latin, with pater meaning "father", and the suffix -cide originating from caedere meaning "to kill". [1] White males are overwhelmingly likely to commit patricide, and the motive is usually physical and/or emotional abuse. [2] Committing patricide simultaneously breaks three of the Ten Commandments- disrespecting one's father, murder, and coveting his removal from the Earthly plane of existence. Salvation from patricide is possible with sincere penance to God for these sins, though such penance is very unlikely.
