/* The online message of Christianity vs. the online messaging of internet atheism */
In an essay entitled How the Atheist Movement Failed Me, an atheist woman noted that participation in the atheist community is often expensive due to the cost of attending atheist conferences and even local atheist meetings in restaurants and bars challenged her modest budget. As a result of the challenges that atheists commonly have in terms of socializing in person, many atheists turn to the internet in terms of communicating with other atheists.
In comparison to many religious groups, which have many meetings in numerous places in a given day or week which are convenient to attend, atheist meetings are sparse. One of the causes of this situation is the apathy of many atheists (see: Atheism and apathy).  Atheist Francois Tremblay wrote about the difficulty of motivating atheists to engage in activities related to atheism: "One last problem that undermines any propagation of atheism is inspiration. Let's be honest here, "there is no god!" is not a very motivating call for most people." (see also: Atheism is uninspiring). == Internet atheism web traffic levels == During the period of 2008 to 2012, the atheist community made a concerted effort to spread atheism through means of the internet. However, leading atheist websites saw plunges in web traffic during this same period and during the first half of 2012.  In 2015, Freethoughtblogs, a collection of atheist bloggers, saw a significant decline in web traffic.
An article entitled Internet atheism: The thrill is gone! declares:
YouTube, the most popular video site on the Net for young people, is one of their primary avenues for passing off their secularist propaganda.}}

Beginning in the 1980s and accelerating in 2011 and beyond, atheism, agnosticism and Darwinism have developed a reputation of cowardice. Unlike Christianity, which is supported by which is supported by a large body of sound evidence (see: Christian apologetics), atheism has no proof and evidence supporting its ideology. Also, there have been notable atheists conceding there is compelling evidence for the existence of God and becoming ex-atheist. As a result, atheism often relies on asserting fragile assumptions that are contrary to the existing evidence.<ref>
