Fred Karger is a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 2012 United States Presidential Election. He was the first Republican candidate to register and is openly gay. Between 1977 and 2004, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Dolphin Group, showing ample experience in the private sector, and since 1990 has managed numerous statewide, congressional, legislative and local campaigns for the Republican Party.
As homosexuality is the centerpeice of such a campaign, he has announced he would be discussing issues central to the gay and lesbian community:
I will work hard to end to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Pass the federal Employment Anti-Discrimination law (ENDA) Eliminate the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) Make Gay Marriage the law of the land and Make finding a cure for HIV / AIDS and a vaccine to prevent HIV a new national priority.
