A ''bishop'' is a high-ranking member of the Christian Catholic clergy. He traditionally wears a [[miter]] and oversees a [[diocese]]. The word is based on the Latin word ''episcopus,'' literally meaning ''overseer.'' In some churches, a bishop is regarded as part of the [[apostolic succession]]. In [[chess]], a bishop is a piece that moves diagonally.
