The anthropogenic global warming theory states that human activities such as the combustion of fossil fuels can significantly warm the earth's atmosphere. Some variants of the theory say that mankind is responsible for more than half of the warming.

The theory enjoys broadbased political support from Liberals, Greens and the US Democratic Party. The extent to which it has scientific support is matter of controversy (see global warming controversy).
