The Panthers entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1995, one of two that season (the [[Jacksonville Jaguars]] being the other) and the first two expansion teams in nearly two decades. They played their first season in Clemson, South Carolina (at the home stadium of Clemson University) before their new facility was ready for their second season.
