Mieszko I (930-992) was Duke of Polans and the first historical ruler of Poland. He was baptized 14 April 966 which started the Christianization of Poland and is considered as the beggining of history of the Polish state. He was father of Bolesław the Brave (Polish: Bolesław Chrobry), the first crowned King of Poland. Mieszko likely was also father of Nordic Queen Sigrid the Haughty and grandfather of her son, Canute the Great the King of England.
