Naples (Napoli in Italian) is the largest city in southern Italy, with a population of around 1 million people and it's the capital of the region of Campania.

It's the third largest city in Italy after Rome and Milan and its metropolitan area is one of the largest in Europe.

It was founded as Neapolis (or new city) by the Greeks in the the 7th century BC.

The Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum are nearby.

It was the center of the Kingdom of Naples in mediaeval times.
