McLintock is a comedy Western with overtones of Taming of the Shrew. It stars John Wayne as a cattle baron in a mid-19th-century territory, who gets a visit from his estranged (and irate) wife. He displays an exceptional empathy for the local Indians, defending them from the so-called "government benevolence" of the local Indian agent.
