Compound negative

A compound negative occurs when there are two negatives in a phrase, thereby making the sense positive. An example would be, "the presentation was not without humor" or "his view was not unreasonable."

A "double negative" is very different: its use of two negatives is not intended to create a positive, as in "she just don't love me no more."
