John H. Hallowell (1913-1991) was a political scientist. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1935. He then received his master's from Duke. He then worked in 1930's Germany as a visiting academic in Heidelberg. After his return in 1938, he became an Episcopalian despite his previous renounciation of a Christian sect in which he had been raised. This was due in part to his attendance of Reinhold Niehbuhr lectures arguing for political thought with a Christian foundation. [1]
