The Shatt al-Arab is a waterway formed by the confleuence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in southern Iraq. Although short in length, the Shatt is opf immense econiomic and strategic significance. It flows past the city of Basra, and forms part of the border bewtween Iraq and Iran.
