Crucifixion was a cruel but common method of execution in the days of the Roman Empire. "Crucifixion" is simply the Latin word for "attach to a cross."
To Christians, the phrase the Crucifixion refers specifically to the death of Jesus Christ, the most famous crucifixion.
Several other martyrs were executed by crucifixion, notably St. Peter, St. Andrew and St. Mongtard.
