Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt, considered by many to be one of the greatest American Presidents, was the 26th President of the United States. He was born on October 27, 1858 at 28 East 20th Street in New York city. Although he had asthma he managed to work over it and become strong. He worked in both the Police Department and the Navy Department. When the Spanish-American War started he became a rough rider. Because of his well known assault on San Juan Hill and other patriotic acts he was nominated for Vice-President with incumbent William McKinley. When President McKinley was shot by a polish anarchist, Roosevelt automatically became President. Because of his success in the presidency he was renominated by the Republican party to run for President. He successfully beat Democratic candidate Alton B. Parker in the election of 1904. When his term was up he supported Republican candidate William H. Taft. But later he expressed disapproval of Taft's handling of the presidency and ran against him. He lost the Republican nomination to Taft but ran as an independent on the Bull Moose Progressive party. Both he and Taft lost to Woodrow Wilson in the election of 1912. He never ran for President again. He died age, 60 4 o'clock AM January 6, 1919.[1]
