Saint Theodulph lived AD 760 to 821. He was born into a prominent Italian family, but chose to serve God, rather than enjoy life in the gentry. In 781, Charlemagne appointed him bishop of Orleans. Charlemagne died, and was succeeded by Louis the Pious, who suspected that Theodulph was secretly loyal to Italy. Theodulph was imprisoned, and there he wrote his famous hymn, “All Glory, Laud, and Honor”. He wrote treatises on baptism and the Holy Spirit. Many of his poems have survived to modern times.[1] Theodulph died in prison in 821.
