Gerard Kuiper was an American astronomer who lived from 1905 to 1973.

He is known for finding moons of Neptune and Uranus, Neried and Miranda respectivly.

He hypothesised the existance of a cometary debris outside the known solar-system. This was confirmed in 1993.

The existance of the Kuiper belt and the Oort Cloud is still an item of debate among astronomers.
