Renegade comes from the Spanish word renegado, which originally signified a person who renounced Christianity and converted to Islam. Currently the term also refers to someone who abandons one cause for another; a traitor. [1] President-elect Barack Obama's Secret Service codename, which he helped select, is "Renegade."
