Orthodox is Greek for "correct" (or right) "words". Orthodoxic religions generally involve cannons of liturgical belief and ritualized statements of adherence to those beliefs.

It can be compared with Orthopraxy "right behavior". An orthodoxic religion stresses a person's belife or statements in the "right things', while an Orthopraxic religion stresses "doing the right thing".
