Salary

Salary is money given in payment to a person as remuneration for their work as an employee. In general, the term is used to mean pay for 'high status' occupations; those in 'low status' occupations receive wages.
The word salary derives from the Latin for salt - as in the approving saying, "He's worth his salt".
